Swiss Composer Adriano Koch Strips Music Back to Its Essence in New music Series “RAW”

Basel-based ambient pianist releases unedited, one-take improvisations every two weeks, complete with tape loops, vulnerability, and hand-drawn covers

In a music industry obsessed with perfection, Swiss composer and pianist Adriano Koch is doing something quietly radical: he's showing up in his studio, pressing record, and letting whatever happens, happen.

RAW is his answer to years of chasing the "perfect" song. Every two weeks, Koch walks into his studio with nothing prepared, improvises on piano, voice, electronics, or tape loops, and releases the result—unedited, unpolished, utterly human. Each piece is filmed and shared on YouTube alongside a hand-drawn cover that Koch creates immediately after the session. "RAW is the feeling I had when I first fell in love with live music—risk and presence in a single, unrepeatable moment," Koch explains in RAW 03, where he experiments with tape delay techniques, his voice echoing through a vintage reel-to-reel. The camera becomes confidant, the listener becomes witness.

The Artist Behind the Risk

Koch is no stranger to the spotlight. His 2020 single BRIEF (Radicalis) garnered over 700,000 streams on Spotify, and his album BLOOM (Radicalis) established him as a distinctive voice in the ambient-electronic space. The Swiss musician weaves softly caressed piano motifs with vocal layers, synth textures, and crisp beats. But somewhere along the way, the pressure to succeed began to overshadow why he made music in the first place.

"I started to associate music with something I need to live from, that I depend on. And I started to hate it," he admits. After stepping back three years ago to heal, confront ADHD, and rebuild his relationship with creativity, Koch returned with a question: What if art wasn't a product, but a practice?
